What We Do ...
Hamakua Health Center is Community - based and
Community - owned.
The center's "Board of Directors" is comprised of representatives from the community, who are responsible for seeing that the health center complies with all the laws governing nonprofit organizations.
Over half of the Directors utilize services at HHC
and have a vested interest in the care we provide.
A Non-Profit Organization :
Being a non-profit organization, does not mean we have to operate at a loss. What it means is that any "profit" must be put back into services and programs for the community. Unlike other businesses that earn a "profit" for their owners or shareholders, our owners/shareholders are our patients and the community.
Benefit of being a FQHC:
Because we are a "Federally Qualified Community Health Center" we are able to recruit doctors through the Public Health Service, using a program that allows them to repay part of their medical school expenses by working in our Center.
This is a "win-win" situation for the physicians as well as the patients and Health Center. It brings the best and brightest talent to our community, and our medical staff chooses to remain at Hamakua Health Center long after their financial obligations are fulfilled, because of the comfortable working environment, opportunity for advancement, and the many friends they have made among both colleagues and patients.
Dr. Giasolli came to our center as part of that program. We are quite proud of the fact
that he has chosen to stay and be part of our community.
