Our Mission is to serve patients struggling to access health care. Hamakua-Kohala Health provides high quality, cost efficient healthcare to seven thousand people in our community. As a community-based health center, we provide comprehensive primary and preventative healthcare to persons of all ages, regardless of their ability to pay or health insurance status.

Community support and monetary donations in all amounts are both very welcome and essential to our continued success. Donations to Hamakua-Kohala Health, Inc. are greatly appreciated! We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and your donations are fully tax-deductible. We provide a tax receipt for all donations and it is our policy to protect the privacy of our donors and their relationship with us.

For the last 50 years Hamakua-Kohala Health has provided health care to plantation workers and later, to the community at large. We provide medical services to seven thousand people in our community. Many of them would not have access to medical providers and medications without our services.

Have you or your ‘ohana been one of our patients? Can you give back now?

Many of our friends and neighbors face barriers to healthcare. We provide care to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. While Hamakua-Kohala Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and receives some funds from the Federal Government, we need your help to keep Hamakua-Kohala Health running.

We have outgrown the space available at the clinics in Hamakua and North Kohala and are in need of funds to rebuild our clinics and cover the increasing costs of operations. Your support is key to helping our kupuna, keiki and young families find vital primary and preventative health care, including substance abuse and mental health services.

In 2016 Hamakua-Kohala Health received three awards:

  • Hamakua-Kohala Health is one of only 18 healthcare groups nationwide and the only one in Hawai’i, to be named “2015 Hypertension Control Champion.” We received the award from Million Hearts and the Centers for Disease Control by keeping people from developing Hypertension and to prevent 1 Million heart attacks and strokes by 2017.
  • Nurse Practitioner Cathy Marquette was recently named a “Hawaii Healthcare Hero” by the Healthcare Association of Hawaii. Recipients of this award must be nominated by patients or their ‘ohana who are experiencing exceptional healthcare service.
  • Tobacco Treatment Specialist Kathyrn Akioka was recognized for “Keeping Hawai’i Healthy” by The Hawaii Public Health Institute and the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii. While the award only covers the time she has been associated with the Coalition, 20 years, Mrs. Akioka has been helping people quit smoking for over 30 years.

Will you consider donating to help us achieve our mission?
